UFC Fight Night Volkov vs. Overeem Takeaways

UFC Fight Night Takeaways: Volkov vs. Overeem Danilo Marques Submits Mike Rodriguez  Early on in the first round of this bout, Marques would secure a single-leg takedown. Rodriguez got to the fence and would stand. Marques went for another single leg and got it. Rodriguez would stand again and quickly be taken down again with an outside trip. Rodriguez would stand towards the end of the round and land a nice right elbow in the clinch. In the second, Marques would secure a single leg and run the pipe to finish before passing to side control. Marques took mount when Rodriguez retreated to the fence to stand. Rodriguez exposed his back to stand and Marques used the opportunity to put his hooks in and break him down. Once Rodriguez was broken down to the mat, Marques body triangled and attacked the choke. Marques tried to finish the choke with the hand on the head. He would switch to a gable grip and strangle Rodriguez unconscious. I was impressed with Marques' positionally sound BJJ a

Shamil Musaev vs. Uros Jurisic: KSW 58 Preview

Shamil Musaev Meets Uros Jurisic at KSW 58

Former Ultimate Fighter cast member and undefeated professional, Uros Jurisic is set to face absolute monster and fellow undefeated pro, Shamil Musaev at KSW 58. While I usually write about the UFC, I watch many different promotions and KSW is consistently one of the most interesting. This fight is the third fight from the main event of KSW 58 and will take place at welterweight. Musaev vs. Jurisic is an exciting matchup on paper and is virtually guaranteed to an action-packed battle between two technical fighters. Both fighters in this bout are undefeated, well-rounded, and aggressive seekers of a finish. This is also an exciting one because both fighters are very promising prospects that are likely to be successful in other organizations.

Uros Jurisic at a Glance

Uros Jurisic 11-0 is an aggressive fighter by natural disposition and will seek the finish aggressively. Jurisic likes to move forward throwing heavy hands to punch his way into the clinch. Once in the clinch, he will attempt to take his opponent down with either an upper-body takedown or by shooting a double leg and changing angles. Jurisic also has great takedown defense that often puts him on top of his opponent. Once on top Jurisic will seek to open up his opponent with heavy ground and pound and will look to pass, mount, and take the back. It can not be said loudly enough that Uros Jurisic is not a man you want on top of you throwing punches. His ground and pound is so effective that one could be lead to believe they were watching a snuff film when his opponent exposes their back and he starts throwing.

Shamil Musaev at a Glance

Musaev 14-0, is coming off of seven straight finishes, and is a very well-rounded fighter. Due to the efficacy of his spinning techniques and quick chambered kicks from the lead leg, it would appear as if he has some kind of traditional martial arts background. In the realm of martial arts speed kills and precision pays the bills; Musaev has both of these in abundance. I would be surprised if he didn’t have a wrestling background of some kind as well because he has a really nice double. He has some trouble passing half guard, but once he gets to side control he does a good job of tracing his opponent's near hip to maintain control and lands surgical elbows once he gets the pin that he wants.

Musaev cont.

Musaev’s opponents usually shoot on him out of desperation and he’s very good at stopping these predictable shots. On the feet, he is a lights-out kicker specifically but appears to have extreme power in his hands as well. Musaev throws his spinning techniques and chambered round kicks with lots of power and no telegraph which is rare, to say the least. Last, but not least he’s a vicious low kicker. In fewer words, Shamil Musaev is a monster.

Why You Should Watch This

KSW is Poland’s premier fighting organization and one of the best operating in Europe. Many big names that have gone on to be massively successful in other major organizations have come from KSW. Shamil Musaev will be another one of these fighters that goes on to be a force in other organizations and he is a rare talent on the feet. His opponent is a very talented fighter himself and Musaev is sure to have his hands full with the big welterweight’s power, aggression, grappling ability, and ferocious ground and pound. This bout is assuredly going to be action-packed and full wild, highly technical exchanges. I think Musaev keeps his zero in this one, but it’s super close. If you’ve got the free time to watch this fight I would strongly suggest doing so
